Gondorf

Gondorf is a municipality in the district of Bitburg -Prüm, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Bitburg -Land. Gondorf is a nationally recognized tourist.

Geography

The municipality is located in the south-west Eifel, about 5 km east of the county town of Bitburg. The municipal area extends between the Kyll and B 50, and is surrounded by the cold north and east winds abmildernden Nature Wall. It covers an area of 376 ha is agricultural land of the 55% of the majority and is passed with 5% an extremely small percentage of forest.

History

A Frankish burial ground and ceramic finds from the 2nd and 3rd centuries indicate an early settlement of the township. The first documentary mention as " Guendurf " dates from the year 1226. The local name ending in " village " is due to the land acquisition period from the 8th century. Until the French at the end of the 18th century occupied the area, the place belonged partly to the provost Bitburg and partly to rule Dudeldorf in the Duchy of Luxembourg. Parish council

The local council in Gondorf consists of six council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 of personalized proportional representation, and the honorary mayor as chairman. The six seats in the municipal council are divided into two groups of voters. In the previous election in 2004, the council had eight members.

Gondorf is an equally agriculturally as touristy church today. An outstanding feature is the Eifel Park opened in 1964, an animal and leisure park that large parts of the Gondorfer district occupies and brings many visitors to the town.
