Gonesse

Gonesse is a commune with 26,516 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Val- d'Oise in the Île- de -France region; it belongs to Arrondissement Sarcelles Gonesse and Canton.

Gonesse is located 16 km north-northeast of Paris in the valley of the river Crould at the Plaine de France. Its neighboring municipalities are: Le Bouqueval, Le Thillay Vaudherland, Roissy -en -France, Tremblay- lès- Gonesse, Villepinte, Aulnay -sous- Bois, Le Blanc -Mesnil, Bonneuil -en -France, Arnouville and Villiers -le- Bel.

History

Gonesse is the birthplace of the French king Philip Augustus ( August 21, 1165 ).

On August 27, 1783 floated in Gonesse, designed by the scientist Jacques Charles and built by the brothers Jean and Anne Marie Noël Robert balloon to the ground, the filling of which had lasted with gas on the 16 km from Paris Champ de Mars four days. The unmanned flying object with a diameter of four meters enabled the villagers in so great fear that they destroyed it with pitchforks and scythes. The smell of impure hydrogen it reinforced the presumption that it was the devil's work.

On 25 July 2000, the French Air France Concorde crashed with flight number 4590 from over Gonesse.
