GoodWeave International

GoodWeave (own spelling: GoodWeave, of Engl. Good = good; weave weave = ) is a label for carpets, to prove the that the production did not occur with child labor. The seal is awarded by the organization GoodWeave International eV for corresponding carpets from Nepal and India.

History and Objectives

The emergence of the seal goes back to the battle of NGOs such as Bread for the World, Misereor, terre des hommes, UNICEF and dedicated carpet companies against exploitative child labor. GoodWeave International eV has been involved for 15 years for the elimination of illegal child labor in the carpet production.

With the certification and inspection procedures of the Organization child labor is completed in the carpet industry, children a good education and adult weavers decent working conditions are possible.

Producers and distributors that receive as licensee the GoodWeave label, are contractually obligated to make their carpets without child labor and to comply with other relevant standards. This is regularly monitored in situ by independent inspectors. Each seal carries a code by which the origin of the carpet can be traced.
