Googie Withers

Googie Withers, actually Georgette Lizette Withers CBE, AO ( born March 12, 1917 in Karachi, British India, † July 15, 2011 in Sydney, Australia) was a British actress.

Life

Googie Withers was born the daughter of a British sailor and a Dutch woman in the British-Indian Karachi. The age of seven she moved with her parents to the United Kingdom. Her first movie role was as a dancer in the movie The Girl in the Crowd by Michael Powell.

Since 1948 Googie Withers was - the nickname she carried since childhood - married in second marriage with John McCallum and has three children. In 1997, she was for the Screen Actors Guild Award for the film Shine - nominated in Light.

Withers was founded in 1980 as the first non - Australians with the Order of Australia, Officer Class ( AO), honored you received in 2001 the title of Commander of the Order of the British Empire ( CBE).
