The real goose ( Anserini ) are birds in the classical system as a tribe within the subfamily of geese ( Anserinae ) and the family Anatidae ( Anatidae ) are performed. They include the two classic genres of the sea geese ( Branta ) and field geese ( Anser ).

The total of fifteen species vary in color from black and gray or brown. Males and females are very similar in color. They have a relatively long neck and long legs can through the medium, the centrally located beneath the body, running relatively quickly.

All fifteen species live in the northern hemisphere.

All real geese show a ritualized mating behavior before the actual mating. The expulsion of a rival bird pair is often demonstrated by a triumphant demonstration outside. The bond between male and female is usually life-long. Only the female is however involved in nest building.
