Gorden-Staupitz

Gorden - Staupitz is a municipality in the southern Brandenburg Elbe-Elster district. The place is located about 13 kilometers northeast of Elsterwerda, and 12 km south of Finsterwalde to the state roads 62 and 63 in the Natural Park Niederlausitzer heathland. The community belongs to the Office Plessa.

Climate

Gorden - Staupitz lies with its humid climate in the cool - temperate zone, but a transition to the continental climate is noticeable. The nearest meteorological stations are located in the north in Doberlug- Kirchhain, southwest of the village in Torgau and south in Oschatz and Dresden.

History

Gorden - Staupitz was born on December 31, 2001, from the voluntary merger of the previously independent municipalities and Staupitz Gorden.

District Gorden

Gorden was in 1297 first mentioned in a document of the monastery Dobrilugk under the name Gordan. The first massive church was built in 1749.

District Staupitz

In 1955, two well-preserved tombs were discovered from the Bronze Age in Staupitz. These tombs were surrounded by circularly arranged boulders. One of the tombs contained 14 boxes (some humpback urns ), whose size ranged up to a height of about 30 cm and a diameter of about 40 cm. Your design after were part of the Lusatian culture and came in from about the year 1200 BC ( Bronze Age ).

In 1231, Staupitz was mentioned in a document in the " Document Book of the monastery and its possessions Dobrilugk " for the first time under the name " Stupozke ". " The villagers of Dobrilugker monastery area after the land register of 1546 " probably contains the oldest population register of the place, which at that time 19 farmers and six gardeners are listed.

In 1643, during the Thirty Years' War, is reported by the burning of six farms in the village. The Staupitzer church was renewed in 1685 because of age from scratch. In 1723, the municipality has 16 Huefner, six gardeners and six cottagers. On June 9, 1759 there was a major fire in place, in which, among other things, the church and the inn were destroyed. The reconstruction of the church took place in 1786. The foundation stone for the separately standing bell tower was laid on 29 July 1889, the topping out ceremony was celebrated on 14 October 1889.

On April 22, 1945 Staupitz was occupied by troops of the Red Army. About noon the following day there was fighting, as isolated units of the Wehrmacht were on their way west through the town.

A tomb with a commemorative plaque in the cemetery of the district Staupitz reminiscent of a Wehrmacht soldier who was executed publicly in April 1945 because he had refused further military service.
