Gordevio

Gordevio is a fraction of the community Avegno Gordevio in a circle Maggia, in the district of Valle Maggia the canton of Ticino in Switzerland.

On April 20, 2008 and merged Gordevio Avegno to the municipality Avegno Gordevio.

Geography

The place is located in the lower part of the Maggia valley on the left bank of the Maggia, 10 km north- west of Locarno. It consists of the districts Gordevio - Briee ( 312-343 m) north and Gordevio villa ( 313-361 m asl ) south of the creek Ri di Gei. Next are several alpine settlements to the community. The most important are Malai ( 1141 m asl ), Brunescio ( 1311 m asl ) and Aiarlo di Dentro ( 1484 m asl ). The largest part of the municipal territory consists of Alps, forested hills and mountains. The northern boundary of Gordevio leads in a northeasterly direction from the Maggia over the Cima di Aiarlo (1904 m asl ) and the Cros Pizzitt to Cima di Nimi ( 2191 m asl ). In the East, the community is bordered by the Distretto di Locarno ( Locarno district ). The highest peak is the Pizzo d' Orgnana ( 2219 m asl ). Other peaks are Mött di Peor ( 2169 m asl ) and the Pizzo di Corbella ( 2066 m asl ). The southern boundary runs from the Maggia in an easterly direction over the Pianosto ( 1338 m asl ) to the Cima della Trosa (1869 m asl ). Of the total area of ​​1925 ha community only 2.1 % is urbanized area. Whole 60.9 % of its territory is covered by forest and woodland, other 21.0% is unproductive area. Bloss 15.9% are agricultural land (including the Alps).

Gordevio borders in the southwest, west and north by the municipality Maggia, to the east by Lavertezzo, Corippo and Mergoscia in the Locarno district and on the south by Avegno.

Population

Demographics

The population grew in the 17th century sharply ( from 1591 to 1709: almost a tripling ). Then the scarce soil could no longer support the many people. More than half of all the inhabitants left the place and moved to Northern Italy, Rome and Palermo (1709-1801: - 62.5 %). By 1850, the population grew again ( 1801 to 1850: 52.9 %). Thereafter, it began to 1930 mass emigration to California one. Many people who have not wanted to go overseas, migrated into the industrial areas from (especially after Locarno ). From 1950 until today began a sustained population growth. Languages

The people speak a local variety of Italian. Despite immigration from the German-speaking countries, the proportion of Italian speakers from 1970 to 2000 has decreased from 86.16 % to 84.59 only %. The share of the German fell despite an absolute growth of 45 to 80 people during the same period by 12.71 % to 10.03%. This is an untypical for the region Locarno / Valli trend and is related to the high immigration from the region. In 2000, also gave 3.63 % of residents of French as the main language.

Origin - Nationality

End of 2004, of the 812 residents of Gordevio 732 ( = 90.15 %), Swiss nationals and 80 immigrants from other countries. At the last census in 2000 were 93.23 % Swiss nationals, including 55 dual citizen. The largest immigrant groups come from Italy, Croatia and Germany.

Economy

Agriculture was always able to feed only a small number of residents. Therefore played until 1930, emigration (and the transfer of money to the emigrants ) play an important role. Traffic

History

Gordevio is first mentioned in 1200 under the name Gordauio. As the Welsh want to conquer the Maggia Valley in 1484, the residents of Gordevio provide 18 man defense quota. The municipality is one from the early 16th century until 1798 to Ennetbirgischen bailiwicks, then until 1803 the canton of Lugano.
