Gordie Dwyer

Gordie Dwyer ( born January 25, 1978 in Dalhousie, New Brunswick ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player and current coach, who played during his active career, among other things for the Tampa Bay Lightning, New York Rangers and Montreal Canadiens in the National Hockey League.

Career

After Gordie Dwyer had previously played in a unterklassigen Canadian junior league, he came in the 1994/95 season for the first time for the Hull Olympiques in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action. In his debut season of Tough guy became, the preferred acted in the role of enforcer for regular players and came to 74 missions in which Dwyer scored 14 points and spent 254 minutes on the bench. At season's end he won with the team with the Coupe du Président the championship of the QMJHL. In the following season the winger began with the Hull Olympiques, later he went to the QMJHL for the Laval Titan, Beauport Harfangs, Drummondville Voltigeurs and Quebec Remparts on the ice. In the Quebec Remparts of the striker served in the 1997/98 season as team captain, he had the same function previously also held at the Hull Olympiques. In his 251 games in the QMJHL during the regular season, the Enforcer has spent about 1300 minutes in the penalty box.

During this time Dwyer was selected at the NHL Entry Draft in 1996 by the St. Louis Blues, with whom he did not agreed on a contract signature. Two years later he was in the NHL Entry Draft in 1998 again, this time, selected by the Montreal Canadiens. After a transfer to the Tampa Bay Lightning in November 1999, which had obliged him in exchange for Mike McBain, he made his NHL debut for this. In September 2000, he has been blocked after an incident for 23 NHL games. The left gunner had a fight with Joe Reekie, Defenders of Washington Capitals supplied, and had to serve a bench penalty after. Instead of fully serve out the punishment on the bench, Dwyer left this early stage in order to fight again with Joe Reekie. Instead, he suggested the Official Mark Faucette and was subsequently ruled out a few days later for 23 games from the game.

Further stations were the New York Rangers (2002) and the Montreal Canadiens ( 2003). In August 2004, he signed as a free agent contract with the Carolina Hurricanes, but denied any further NHL game. The 2005/06 season he had to cancel almost completely due to a shoulder injury. During the season 2006/ 07 Dwyer moved to Europe and played for Örebro HK in the third highest Swedish league. From the 4th January 2008, he played in the 2nd hockey league at the SERC Wild Wings, after he had previously run in the American Hockey League for the Portland Pirates. For the 2008/09 season the Canadians returned again back to Sweden Örebro HK before Dwyer end of the season ended his playing career. Subsequently, he was hired as head coach of the Summerside Western Capitals of the Maritime Junior A Hockey League and also had the position as Associate Director of Hockey Operations held later. For this he was two seasons behind the gang and won with the team in the 2010/11 season the championship of the MJAHL. In May 2011, Dwyer was as head coach of PEI Rocket from the Quebec Major Junior presented Hockey League.
