Gordon Beecher

William Gordon Beecher, Jr. ( born January 19, 1904 in Baltimore, Maryland; † 7 December 1973) was an American composer and Vice Admiral. Many of his music arrangements made ​​in cooperation with Johnny Noble.

Beecher received his military training at the United States Naval Academy and at the National War College. He served for 34 years in the United States Navy and retired as a Vice Admiral. Beecher commanded during the Second World War, a destroyer squadron and fought in Pearl Harbor, Iwo Jima and Okinawa; he was awarded the Legion of Merit.

From 1933 to 1935 Beecher led the USNA musical clubs and joined ASCAP in 1944. Well-known compositions, which he mostly published under the pseudonym Gordon Beecher, A Song of Old Hawaii, Sing on American Song, Counting On You, All Pau Now, Nimitz, Halsey and Me, Just a Happy Kama'aina and The Ramparts We Watch.

Beecher died in 1973 and is buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
