Gordon Campbell (Royal Navy officer)

Gordon Campbell ( * January 6, 1886; † July 3, 1953 ) was an officer in the British Royal Navy. He reached the rank of vice admiral. Him the Victoria Cross three times and the Distinguished Service Order was awarded.

World War I

Under Campbell's command was during the First World War, the Q- ship Farnborough, the two German submarines (U 68 and U 83) sank. With the sinking of U 83, the Farnborough was so badly damaged that Campbell had to rely on reason his ship on the southwest coast of Ireland. He was awarded for sinking with the Victoria Cross. Since the ceremony was in connection with the use of a submarine case, it was initially kept secret and known as Mystery VC.

Later, Campbell took another Q- ship, the Dunraven. She was sunk on August 18, 1917 UC 71.

Interwar period

From 1925 to 1927 Campbell commanded the battlecruiser Tiger. From 1931 to 1935 he was a member of the constituency of Burnley in the House.
