Gordon County, Georgia

The Gordon County is a county located in the state of Georgia in the United States. Administrative office ( County Seat) is Calhoun, named for Senator John C. Calhoun.

Geography

The County is located in northwest Georgia, is in the north about 40 miles from Tennessee to the west and about 45 miles from Alabama away. It has an area of 927 square kilometers, of which six square kilometers of water surface are bordered clockwise to the following counties: Murray County, Pickens County, Bartow County, Floyd County, Walker County and Whitfield County.

History

Gordon County was formed on 13 February 1850, 93 of Georgia County from parts of Bartow County and Floyd County. It was named for William Washington Gordon, president of the Central Railroad and Banking Company, and later Central of Georgia Railroad.
