Gordon Greenidge

Cuthbert Gordon Greenidge ( born May 1, 1951 in Black Bess, St. Peter, Barbados ) is a former cricketer from Barbados who played for the team from the West Indies.

Career

Gordon Greenidge played as opening batsman. Along with Desmond Haynes, he formed one of the most successful teams start batsmen of all time. For the West Indies team Greenidge participated in 108 Test matches in which he scored a total of 7558 runs ( 44.72 runs per wicket ). On his Test debut against India at Bangalore in November 1974 he scored in his first Test innings 93 runs in the second innings with 109 runs his first Century. In addition, Gordon Greenidge played during his career 128 One- Day International cricket matches ( ODIs ) for the team of West Indies, where he scored a total of 5134 runs ( 45.03 runs per wicket ). Greenidge took part in three Cricket World Cups (1975, 1979 and 1983) with the West Indies. In all three tournaments he reached the final with his team, two of which were won (1975 and 1979).

Others

Gordon Greenidge was voted one of the five Wisden Cricketers of the Year in 1977. In 2009 he was aufgrnommen into the ICC Hall of Fame. At the Cricket World Cup 1999 Greenidge was coach of the team from Bangladesh.
