Gordon H. Scherer

Gordon Harry Scherer ( born December 26, 1906 in Cincinnati, Ohio; † August 13, 1988 ) was an American politician of the Republican Party. From 1953 to 1963 he was a member of the House of Representatives of the United States for the 1st Congressional District of the State of Ohio.

Biography

Gordon Harry Scherer was born in Cincinnati. He studied Law at Northern Kentucky University. 1929 he received his degree. He was admitted to the bar and opened a law firm in Cincinnati. From 1933 to 1941 he worked for the state attorney of Hamilton County. This was followed by a job as security director of Cincinnati. He also worked in the Planning Commission of Cincinnati. From 1945 to 1949 he was a member of Cincinnati City Council.

As the successor of Charles H. Elston Scherer in 1953 elected to represent the 1st District of Ohio in the U.S. House of Representatives. There he sat for five legislative sessions. He went back to Cincinnati to get back to work as a lawyer. From 1965 to 1972 he also sat in the House of Representatives from Ohio.

1964 and 1968 he was a delegate at the Republican National Convention. From 1962 to 1968 he was chairman of the party in Hamilton County. Scherer died in 1988 at the age of 81 years in Cincinnati.
