Gordon MacRae

Albert Gordon MacRae ( born March 12, 1921 in East Orange / New Jersey; † January 24, 1986 in Lincoln / Nebraska) was an American singer and actor.

MacRae was active in his high school days as a singer and actor in the drama club of his school and learned piano, clarinet and saxophone. Nineteen year he took part in a singing contest and won a two-week engagement at The World 's Fair in New York, where he performed with the bands of Harry James and Les Brown. From 1940 to 1942 he was a singer in Horace Heidts band. There followed a two-year period of service as a navigator in the Army Air Corps.

After the war, MacRae debuted on Broadway in the show Junior Miss. In 1946, he appeared in Ray Bolger's Broadway revue Three To Make Ready, which earned him a contract with the label, Capitol Records, where he remained connected for twenty years. In 1948, he launched the radio show, The Railroad Hour, which first ran on NBC at ABC and then to 1954.
