Gordon Mumma

Gordon Mumma ( born March 30, 1935 in Framingham, Massachusetts) is a contemporary American composer.

Life

Gordon Mumma studied piano and horn in Chicago and Detroit. He began his career as a horn player.

He, along with Robert Ashley co-founder of Ann Arbor 's Cooperative Studio for Electronic Music. Gordon Mumma worked with John Cage and David Tudor to compositions for the Merce Cunningham Dance Company. He was together with Ashley, Alvin Lucier, and David Behrman member of Sony Arts Union. Gordon Mumma is primarily known for his compositions in the field of electronic music.

1972 celebrated Gordon Mumma with John Cage and Merce Cunningham great success in Shiraz Art Festival in Iran.

From 1975 to 1994, Gordon Mumma Professor of Music at the University of California, Santa Cruz.
