Gordon is a city in Schuylkill County in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania in the United States with 781 inhabitants (as of 2000).

History

The city was named after " David. F.. Gordon, " a judge named. The post office in Gordon was opened on July 15, 1858 as the first postmaster with J. Faust.

Demography

According to the census of 2000, there were 781 people in 312 households and 210 families. The population density was 478.6 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 98.72 % White, 0.38 % Native American, 0.26 % Asian, 0.26 % from other races, and 0.38% mixed race. 0:51 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 312 households out of which 33.7 % have children under the age of 18 living with them. 51.9 % were married couples living together, 12.5 % had a female householder with no husband, and 32.4 % were non-families. 30.4 % of all households are made up and 18.3% had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or over only. The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 3.12.

In relation to the entire town the population was spread out with 25.5 % under the age of 18, 9.6 % from 18 to 24, 26.9 % between 25 and 44 years, 23.6% between 45 and 64 years and 14.5% were 65 years old or older. The average age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 96.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.0 men statistically.

The median income for a household was $ 30,855, and the median income for a family was $ 40,714. Males have a median income of $ 28,125, women $ 21,354. The per capita income was $ 13,873. 9.8 % of families and 11.3 % of the population were below the poverty line (including 12.2 % of children and 11.1 % of people over 65 years ).
