Gordon David Strachan OBE ( born February 9, 1957 in Edinburgh) is a Scottish football manager and former football player (midfielder ). He is coach of the Scottish national team.

Life and career

Strachan is one of the most successful Scottish players. His most successful period as a player he experienced in the late 1970s to the mid-1980s at FC Aberdeen under manager Alex Ferguson. He won the championship twice (1980 and 1984), three times the Cup (1982, 1983 and 1984), the 1983 European Cup Winners' Cup and 1984 European Supercup. He then moved to England to Manchester United, with whom he was in 1985 Cup Winners' Cup. In 1989 he moved to Leeds United, where he met his compatriot Gary McAllister 1992 English champions together. At the end of his career Strachan played one more season for Coventry City.

Even as international, he was successful, he took part in the World Cup finals in 1982 and 1986 and completed six games ( one goal). In total, he completed 50 caps for Scotland and scored five goals.

After his playing career he became a coach. First, he coached Coventry City, but with which he descended from the Premier League. Less successful was his time at FC Southampton.
