Gorgon Stare

Gorgon Stare is a monitoring system of the United States Air Force, which is to be used on the MQ - 9 Reaper drone. The system consists of two containers ( pods ), which are carried along with the two inner undervane stations MQ 9. The sensor comprises a container reconnaissance system that is in the current version of nine video cameras. However, Future developments could include up to 50 cameras. The second pod provides comprehensive computing and storage. This combination should make it possible to create images, to which whole villages can be represented. This should give the troops on the ground more comprehensive situational pictures and make it the same time the enemy impossible to predict which area the drone closely monitored. The enormous due to the large number of cameras amount of data can not be sent via data links to ground stations live, what the storage capacity in the second pod conditionally. The heavy weight equipped with Gorgon Stare MQ-9 can carry no additional armament more. However, the transfer of live images from the existing education system under the fuselage is still possible. First uses of the system are to be made in winter 2010 /2011. DARPA has provided a grant for the software Mind's Eye, which is to be used in this context.
