Gorkhaland

Gorkhaland ( Nepali: गोर्खाल्याण्ड gorkhālyāṇḍ ) is the name of a postulated new state in India, which is required by the resident Nepalis / Gorkhas. Gorkhaland is located in northern West Bengal. A big part of it makes the district of Darjeeling.

The majority of the population of Darjeeling and other areas in the north of West Bengal consists of nepalesischstämmigen Gorkha. Since the 1980s, several competing separatist movements calling for an autonomous " Gorkhaland " and the Unababhängigkeit of West Bengal.
