Gorlois

Gorlois is in the Arthurian legend of the Duke of Cornwall, who is married to Igraine, who (according to Geoffrey of Monmouth in his Historia Regum Britanniae ) daughter of Amlawdd Wledig, a member of the Royal House of Dumnonia.

He has four children with Igraine:

  • Gormant, a son.
  • Elaine, a daughter.
  • Anna- Morgause, a daughter, better known as Morgause.
  • Morgan, a daughter, Morgan le Fay better known as.

According to Geoffrey of Monmouth, the British High King Uther Pendragon of Igraine's beauty is so fascinated that he brings death Gorlois, sleeps with Igraine under false pretenses, she married and the father of Arthur is.

Later texts such as Sir Thomas Malory's Le Morte d' Arthur paste to the base magical elements added, such as the wizard Merlin, makes think of Igraine, Uther Pendragon was Gorlois.

It is likely that an actual Gorlois ( Gwrlais in Welsh ) was the governor of Cornwall under King heiress of Dumnonia.
