Goryachevodsky
Gorjatschewodski (Russian Горячеводский ) is an urban-type settlement in the southern Russian region of Stavropol with 36 967 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).
Geography
The settlement is situated on the northern edge of the Greater Caucasus about 200 kilometers southeast of the capital city of Stavropol region on the right bank of the Podkumok, a right tributary of the Kuma. From the right, the settlement flowing through Juza empties into the Podkumok.
Gorjatschewodski is the administration of the city of Pyatigorsk subordinated to which it connects directly to the southeast. Directly west extends on the same river bank which also belongs to Pyatigorsk settlement Swobody. To the north rises the 993 -meter high mountain Maschuk.
Gorjatschewodski is the most populous city in Russia with urban-type settlement status.
History
In 1966, the place the status of an urban-type settlement.
The name of the settlement was derived from the Russian gorjatschije Vody for hot ( healing ) waters and refers to the mineral springs in the area. Also, the original name of the city of Pyatigorsk was until 1830 Gorjatschewodsk.
