Gossau [ ɡo ː SAU ] is a political community in the district Hinwil of the canton of Zurich in Switzerland. It is located in the Zurich Oberland and in the upper Glatt valley between Wetzikon and Forch.

Geography
Gossau ZH is bordered to the west by the district of Uster, on the north by Wetzikon, to the east by Bubikon and on the south by green rings. The municipality consists of the villages Gossau respectively. Outside Wachten Bertschikon, Gruet, Ottikon and Herschmettlen and other hamlets like Hellberg or Brüschweid.
Gossau and his Wachten are embedded in a shaped by more than 150 drumlins landscape, a relic of the Ice Age. Gradually developed after the settlements on the wooded hills and moor traversed sinks.

Religion
December 31, 2011 consisted of 45.49 % of the population of the Evangelical Reformed Church, and 25.6% to the Roman Catholic Church.
In Gossau there is also the Free Church Chrischona and the Apostolic Church.

Legislature
The voting citizens and voters are the supreme governing body of the political community. History
In the year 824, the first written reference as Cozesouva ( the floodplain of the Coz of the Goths ). As usual in that time, today's Gossauer municipality was always other gentlemen: Already around 777 built the monastery of St. Gall, the first church, and there where still stands the church, and taught the largest parish one in the Zurich Oberland.
