Gotha Go 244

The Gotha Go 244 was a direct development of the load glider Gotha Go 242 Gotha Coach Factory.

The biggest change was the installation of two engines on the tail booms, which was a transport aircraft from the glider. The other structure corresponded to the Gotha Go 242 A and B. However, the French used Gnôme - Rhone radial engines proved, each with 740 hp is too weak to hold the loaded machine in the air can.

Construction

The Gotha Go 244 was a strutted high -wing monoplane with trapezoidal wings, two rod hulls and a hull with square cross section. The hull was made of steel tube and was covered with fabric. The rod hulls were designed as wooden bowls.

The variant Go 244C -1 had a float-type substructure for splashdown and could be used for the transportation of assault boats.

Production

The first Go 244 were created as conversions and delivered in March 1942. As a licensee, Maschinenfabrik Niedersachsen Hannover ( MNH ) was turned into production. The first new buildings were completed in October 1942. After it had been found that the aircraft was unusable, the production in December 1942 has been set and the Go 244 back prepared in glider Go 242.
