Gothelo II of Lower Lorraine

Gotzelo II, also Gozelo II (* 1008, † 1046 unsecured) was 1044-1046 Duke of Lower Lorraine from the house Verdun.

About the second son of the Duke of Lower Lorraine I. Gotzelo is because of its short reign but little delivered. What is certain is that he in 1044 after the death of his father, who is also Duke of Upper Lorraine was in personal union, which succeeded him in Lower and Upper Lorraine. The German King Henry III. moved Gotzelo the older brother Gottfried of succession before, although Gotzelo II was according to contemporary reports as Incapable possibly even as mental health and Gottfried for many years was co-regent of Lower Lorraine and laid claim to the whole of Lorraine. In 1046, the Duchy of Lower Lorraine was given by the King to Frederick of Luxembourg. The king was thus again Gottfried's claims to the whole of Lorraine. For Upper Lorraine Gotzelo 's brother Gottfried is known as the Duke at this time. A variant assumes the Gotzelo II could have died at that time. Another version says that Gotzelo II due to inability of King Henry III. was discontinued. The death of Gotzelo II in 1046, is therefore not certain occupied.
