Gottfried Wagner

Gottfried Helferich Wagner ( born April 13, 1947 in Bayreuth ) is a German film director and writer.

Life

Gottfried Wagner is the son of Wolfgang Wagner and a great-grandson of Richard Wagner. He has a doctorate in Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht. In numerous publications he dealt primarily with German culture and politics and Jewish history in the 19th and 20th centuries. Gottfried Wagner is since 1992 a co-founder of the post- Holocaust Dialogue Group. Since 1993 he lives in Italy. He is a member of the PEN center of Germany.

He has fallen out with his father's family and came out publicly by criticism of the involvement of the Wagner family with the Nazi regime.
