Gottfried Wilhelm Fink

Gottfried Wilhelm Fink ( born March 8, 1783 in Sulza (formerly City Sulza ); † August 27, 1846 in Leipzig ) was a German composer, music theorist, a Protestant clergyman and poet.

Life

In the years 1804-1808 he studied theology at Leipzig, where he joined the Corps Lusatia joined; incidentally made ​​the first attempts in composition and poetry. Most of his song compositions are attributable to this period. From 1811, he held the office of vicar in Leipzig a few years, founded beyond an educational institution, whose board he held until 1829. At the beginning of the 19th century, he worked on the general musical magazine. From 1827, he held the post of chief editor of this magazine, which he held for 15 years.

Since 1838, Fink was a lecturer at the University of Leipzig until 1841 private lecturer in musicology at the university there. In the same year he became a member of the Prussian Academy of Arts in Berlin and a year later he was appointed university music director.

Gottfried Wilhelm Fink life was highly valued as a music theorist and composer. He was given both at home and abroad many honors and awards received. In 1838 he also the Faculty of Leipzig University awarded an honorary doctorate.
