Gotthold Schwarz

Gotthold Schwarz ( born August 12, 1952 in Zwickau ) is a German singer ( bass-baritone ) and conductor.

Life

Raised in Zwickau, Saxony the son of the cantor of the Zwickau Paul Church had early contact with music. His music career began in 1964 as a member of the St. Thomas Boys Choir Leipzig, with whom he worked closely ever since. After completing a church musical education at the College of Church Music in Dresden, he studied at the Academy of Music " Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy " in Leipzig singing with Gerda Schriever, organ Wolfgang Schetelich and Hannes Kästner and conducting with Max Pommer and Hans -Joachim Rotzsch. Later he worked under private vocal studies with, among others, Peter Schreier, Hermann Christian Polster, Helmuth Rilling.

After his studies he started an active solo career, especially as a cantata and oratorio singer. In 1979 he was appointed Hans -Joachim Rotzsch as vocal coach of the St. Thomas Boys Choir and eventually he was in 1992, 1999, 2002 /03 and 2011 interim cantor or his deputy. Black appeared with many renowned ensembles and conductors, such as John Eliot Gardiner, Philippe Herreweghe, Peter Schreier, Martin Haselboeck, Leipzig's St. Thomas Choir, the Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig and Dresden Kreuz Choir. He has performed at the Salzburg Festival, the Vienna Musikverein and the United States, Finland and Japan.

Increasingly occurs Schwarz as conductor in appearance. So he leads his own ensembles - the Concerto Vocale Leipzig (founded 1984) and the Saxon Baroque Orchestra ( founded in 1990 ) - and as a guest conductor of the St. Thomas Boys Choir and the Gewandhaus Orchestra. Together with the Leipzig gamba Siegfried Pank and the Hameln organist Hans Christoph Becker- Foss 1993 he launched the baroque trio gotthold black, which lists mainly music of the Bach family, but other Baroque music.

Gotthold Schwarz lives in Leipzig.
