Gournay-sur-Marne

The French town of Gournay -sur -Marne is a suburb with 6485 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the east of Paris, about 16 km from the city center. It belongs to the department of Seine -Saint- Denis. The inhabitants call themselves Gournaysiens.

History

Gournay -sur -Marne in 1105 was mentioned in a document of Saint Martin de Champs under the name Gornaium the first time. At this time, founded Guy le Rouge, Lord of Gourney, a priory, seat of the royal bailiwick, district of Henry IV, who led the siege of Paris during the French Wars of Religion from here.
