Changes

On 7 April 2006, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero announced the resignation of Defense Minister José Bono Martínez family reasons. José Antonio Alonso, the previous interior minister, took over the Department of Defense; his place was Alfredo Pérez Rubalcaba, who had been in Parliament previously leader of the Socialists. Furthermore, María Jesús San Segundo was replaced in the Ministry of Education of Mercedes Cabrera Calvo Sotelo.

On 8 September 2006, José Montilla left the Ministry of Industry, to run for the Presidency of the Autonomous Community of Catalonia. He was replaced by Joan Clos, Mayor of Barcelona before.

In February 2007, Justice Minister Juan Fernando López Aguilar resigned to run as a candidate of the PSOE for the presidency of the Canary Islands; he was replaced by Mariano Fernández Bermejo.

In July 2007 the scientists Bernat Soria took over the Ministry of Health, Elena Salgado, who moved instead in the department of Public Administration. Carme Chacón was appointed housing minister, César Antonio Molina, Minister of Culture.
