Governor of Montreal

The governor of Montreal ruled the city of Montreal in the 17th and 18th centuries. Before the creation of the Sovereign Council, the government of New France, in 1663 the governor of the Société Notre- Dame de Montréal was used. The governor had both civilian and military functions.

From 1764 to 1832 Montreal was ruled by a council of magistrates.
