The Gowan River is a river on the South Island of New Zealand. He is the outflow of Lake Rotoroa in the region Tasman. He then runs for 11 km to the north, before it flows into the Buller River.

On the banks of the river is dominated by forestry and agriculture. Besides the town Rotoroa at the outflow of Lake Rotoroa, to which a road leads up along the river, there are no places near the river.

The river teams introduced trout which attract anglers.

2001, the river was placed under protection because of its natural state by a Water Conservation Order. The Majac Trust requested a change in the order that would allow the construction of a hydropower station. This request was rejected by the Environment Court in August 2007.
