Goya, Corrientes

Goya is the capital of the departments Goya in the southwest of the province of Corrientes in northeastern Argentina. It is located on the Paraná River and is equipped with 73 511 inhabitants ( 2012), the second largest city of the province.

Location

Goya is located on the eastern shore of the Paraná River, which forms a shallow shore in the area. The area is part of the transition region between Pampa and Chaco. The climate is subtropical and humid.

History

For the first time Goya was mentioned in documents in 1772. 1774 the site was officially recognized as a stopover on the way between Asunción and Buenos Aires. 1812, the road network has been created, and the place gradually became a river port. 1852 Goya finally got city rights. 1878, 1905 and 1941 there was flooding, but the development of the city did not stop.

Economy, culture, education

Goya is the center of an area in which tobacco is grown mainly. In addition, the city is a regional industrial center. The city has the Goya Airport ( IATA: OYA, ICAO: SATG ) with a runway of 7415 ft.

Goya is since 1961 a bishopric of the Roman Catholic Dözese Goya. The city is home to the shrine of the Mother Thrice Admirable of Schoenstatt.

Goya belongs to the district of the German Honorary Consulate in Santa Fe, Argentina.

The state universities National University of Lomas de Zamora ( UNLZ ), Universidad Nacional del Nordeste ( thin ) and the private colleges Catholic University of Salta ( UCASAL ), Universidad Empresarial Siglo 21, Universidad de la Cuenca del Plata ( UCP) have offices in Goya.

Events

In Goya end of April / beginning of May is celebrated the Surubí hard. The Surubí is a common fish in the region. Simultaneously, the agricultural- industrial exhibition Goya Expo is held.
