Gozbald

Gozbald or Gozbaldus or Gauzbaldus († September 20 855) was 825 for the sixth abbot of the monastery Niederaltaich in Lower Bavaria, 842-855 Bishop of Würzburg at the behest of King Ludwig II and 830-833 head of the Office of the King.

About the descent of Gozbald nothing certain is known. A relationship with Hariolf, who founded the monastery Ellwangen 764, called the Vita, which is, however, survives only in a revision from the 12th century.

Even before his tenure as Bishop of Würzburg he paid his own church in Ochsenfurt with several relics. Shortly before his death, the Würzburg Cathedral was destroyed by lightning. Reconstruction began under his successor Arn.
