Grace ( Original title: Grace Under Fire ) is an American television series that aired from 1993 to 1998 on the U.S. television channel ABC. In Germany, it was broadcast from 1995 to 1998 on ProSieben. The main role of the title givers single mother and alcoholic, dry Grace Kelly (not to be confused with the same actress, but a deliberate allusion to same, see Trivia ) played the American comedienne Brett Butler. The show starts after the main character, divorced from her husband, an alcoholic who abused her was after eight years of marriage to begin a new life and to protect their children before they commit the same mistake as them. The series was produced by Carsey Werner International. Known for productions such as The Cosby Show, Roseanne, Cybill, Rock from the Sun and The Wild Seventies

In the U.S., the series had at the time the highest ratings under the new comedy series. Mainly it was in the series about the life of Grace, who raised three children alone. Producers and writers of the show changed constantly during the five seasons. Brett Butler fought successfully for more creative control over the show and her role. These disputes led to the dismissal of the Creator and executive producer of the series, Chuck Lorre, from the production. However, he continued to stand as a " consultant " is available. Grace Kelly is not the only character who is named after one of the famous Kelly's in the entertainment industry. In her in-laws family, there is the name Jean Kelly ( homophone to Gene Kelly), Emmet Kelly and DeForest Kelly.

Jean Stapleton ( Edith from All in the Family ) in 1995 was nominated for an Emmy in the category Guest Actress for her portrayal of Aunt Vivian in the episode A great aunt. Diane Ladd was nominated the year before for her role of Louise Burdett in the episode sisterly love in the same category.
