Graceland is an album of American folk-rock singer and songwriter Paul Simon from the year 1986. It combines Western folk and pop music with African music and was recorded together with musicians from Africa. With worldwide more than 14 million copies sold and two Grammy Awards, it is the most successful solo album by Paul Simon.

Background

The title song was inspired by a visit to Simon's Graceland, Elvis Presley's estate.

Simon's career was badly hit in the 1980s. A first step towards the realization of the new project was the song of the Boyoyo Gumboots Boys. Simon wrote a text for this instrumental piece and took it to new. This version was the fourth track of the album.

Simon recorded the album in South Africa, which earned him criticism, since there're still ruled apartheid and a spell for cultural contacts with South Africa was. However, he mainly worked together with black artists from South Africa and Lesotho.
