Graciela Paraskevaidis

Graciela Paraskevaidis ( born April 1, 1940 in Buenos Aires ) is an Argentine composer and musicologist of Greek descent.

Training

Paraskevaidis studied composition at Roberto García Morillo at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música in Buenos Aires. A grant from the Centro Latinoamericano de Altos Estudios Musicales ( CLAEM ) enabled her 1965-66 attending courses of Gerardo Gandini and Iannis Xenakis at the Instituto Torcuato Di Tella.

At the invitation of the German Academic Exchange Service ( DAAD) she continued her education from 1968 to 1971 continues with Wolfgang Fortner at the Musikhochschule Freiburg. In 1972 she took part in the Darmstadt Summer Courses. 1984-85 she was a guest of the DAAD Berlin Artists Programme.

Career

Since 1975 Paraskevaidis lives in Uruguay. She taught from 1985 to 1992 at the Universidad Nacional in Montevideo and gave courses, seminars and workshops in several countries of Latin America and Europe. Since 1975, she published essays mainly about contemporary Latin American music, among other things in the Mexican magazine Pauta, the Revista Musical Chilena and the magazine music lyrics. She wrote two books ( about the composer Eduardo and Luis Fabini Campodónico ), was from 1990 to 1999 co-editor of the World New Music Magazine and since 1992 has been assistant at Walter Wolfgang Sparrers lexicon composers.

From 1975 to 1979 Paraskevaidis was one of the organizers of the Cursos Latinoamericanos de Música Contemporánea ( CLAMC ). She is a member of the Núcleo Música Nueva de Montevideo and the Sociedad de Música Contemporánea Uruguaya.

Awards

For her compositions, she was awarded, among other prizes from the Fondo Nacional de las Artes and the municipalidad de Buenos Aires, the Academy of Arts in Berlin and the Juventudes Musicales of Uruguay. In 1994 she was awarded the Goethe Medal of the Goethe Institute Munich.
