Gradac Monastery

The monastery Gradac is a Serbian Orthodox convent south of Kraljevo in Serbia. It is one of the buildings of the Raška School and is similar to the Studenica monastery. Through the use of Gothic elements, it is next to the monastery Visoki Dečani the most influenced by western style religious monument in Serbia.

History

Gradac is a foundation of Queen Hélène d' Anjou (1237-1314), wife of Stefan Uroš I.. Monastery was built in 1275 and serves among other things as a grave laying of Queen Hélène.

By the Turks after 1389 severely damaged, only fragments of the frescoes have been preserved. The building is characterized by elements of the Gothic windows and portals.
