Grafenegg Music Festival

The Grafenegg Festival is a concert festival, which takes place every year in late August to mid-September in Grafenegg (Lower Austria ).

History

Under the artistic direction of pianist Rudolf Buchbinder, the festival takes place on the castle grounds of Grafenegg since 2007. As venues serve the open-air stage Wolkenturm, the concert hall auditorium as well as the historic riding school, which is used for Prelude concerts and introductory meetings. The role of the orchestra in residence holds the Musicians' Orchestra of Lower Austria. From the season 13-14, the concert series " Grafenegg Festival " is called (instead of Grafenegg Music Festival ).

Venues

Wolkenturm

As the clouds tower built in 2007, open-air stage was named in 1730 for concert-goers. It was designed by architects the next enterprise - Designed architects, Marie- Therese Harnoncourt and Ernst J. Fuchs. The open-air stage is embedded in a natural depression in the middle of the castle park and also serves as a venue and as an object in the landscape park. For the acoustic design features Müller- BBM responsible from Munich. The clouds tower in 2007 was awarded the Austrian Client Prize, and in 2008 with the Austrian construction price.

The clouds tower was opened on 22 June 2007 with the annual Midsummer Night Gala. The gala program was designed by the Musicians' Orchestra under Alfred Eschwé and Genia Kühmeier, Johan Botha, Bryn Terfel and Julian Rachlin. The Summer Night Gala on Wolkenturm is also shown live on ORF and 3sat annually. In addition to the seats and 300 lawn spaces can be booked at reasonable prices. In case of bad weather, the concerts will be moved to the concert hall auditorium.

Auditorium

The concert hall auditorium was opened in May 2008 and offers up to 1300 visitors. The auditorium was from the Dortmund office architects trained schröder - Ladbeck planned. From September 2007, the project of architect Dieter Irresberger was supervised and completed. The acoustic design was for the Munich-based company Müller- BBM.

Programming

The Grafenegg the festival program includes fourteen concerts on four weekends and will be opened each with a Midsummer Night's Gala in the clouds tower with international singing stars and fireworks. The focus of the programs are orchestral concerts with international guest orchestras and recitals by soloists. The orchestra in residence, the Musicians' Orchestra, designed a total of three concerts. Part of the concept is also an extensive program with introductory talks, Prelude concerts, soirees, film screenings, etc. On Sundays, family workshops also offered.

Composer in Residence

A central role is played annually one of the composer in residence who writes a work commissioned by the Grafenegg festivals and this also brings the premiere even in the festival. After Krzysztof Penderecki (2007 ), Heinz Holliger (2008), Tan Dun (2009) and Cristóbal Halffter (2010), HK Gruber ( 2011), James MacMillan (2012 ) takes over this role in 2013 Brett Dean.
