Graham County (Kansas)
Graham County is a county located in the state of Kansas in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Hill City.
Geography
The County is located in northwest Kansas, is located in the north about 45 miles from Nebraska and has an area of 2328 square kilometers, of which one square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Norton County, Phillips County, Rooks County, Trego County, Gove County and Sheridan County.
History
Graham County was formed on 26 February 1867 as original county of free territory. It was named after John L. Graham, an officer in the American Civil War, which had fallen in the 19 ongoing until September 20, 1963 Battle of Chickamauga.

According to the census of 2000, there were 2,946 people in Graham County in 1263 households and 847 families in Graham County. The population density was 1 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 94.91 percent White, 3.22 percent African American, 0.34 percent Native American, 0.27 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 0.41 percent from other races groups; 0.81 percent were descended from two or more races. 0.78 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 1,263 households out of which 27.4 percent of children under 18 who lived with them. 59.5 percent were married couples living together, 5.9 percent were single mothers and 32.9 percent were non-families. 30.1 percent of all households were single-person households and 16.7 percent living alone who is 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.28 and the average family size was 2.84 persons.
22.5 percent of the population were under 18 years old. 5.3 percent 18 to 24 years 23.1 percent between 25 and 44, 25.4 percent between 45 and 64 years, and 23.7 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 44 years. For every 100 females there were 95.1 males. For every 100 adult women 18 years and older 92.2 males.
The median income for a household was $ 31,286, and the median income for a family was $ 38,036. Males have a median income of $ 26,642, women $ 18,222. The per capita income was $ 18,050. 8.6 percent of families and 11.5 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
