Gralla is a municipality in the south of Styria, with 2150 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) near the town of Leibnitz ( judicial district or district Leibnitz ).

Geography

Gralla is located in the district of Leibnitz Mur and Phyrn motorway A9 in the Austrian province of Styria. In the northeastern part Altgrallas the Mur river is dammed by a power plant. The resulting reservoir is a popular place for many migratory birds. Of the two views huts you can also watch all year swans, mallards, coots and similar Native species of birds in addition to the seasonal migratory birds.

Gralla consists of the cadastral (area 2001): Obergralla 808.02 ha, 405.98 ha Untergralla The only localities is Gralla. Districts are top and Untergralla as well as old and Straßengralla. Obergralla is known among the Gralligern as Neugralla.

History

The local church as an autonomous body created in 1850. After the annexation of Austria in 1938, the community came to Reichsgau Styria, 1945-1955, she was part of the British zone of occupation in Austria. Earlier, in Altgralla a wooden bridge over the river Mur, which, however, was blown up during the trigger of the British soldiers, and was replaced by a concrete bridge.

Coat of arms

The four stars on the coat of arms stand for the four districts Upper, Alt-, under-and Straßengralla, the blue for the leading by Gralla river, the river Mur, and the green, for those encountered in the area forests.

The parish council consists of Mayor Hubert Isker (SPÖ ), Vice- Mayor Franz Draxler ( SPÖ) and municipal treasurer Edmund Willinger ( SPÖ) together. The council is made up after the elections of 2010 were as follows: 13 SPÖ, ÖVP 2

Economy and infrastructure

The location is residential, commercial and agricultural community. Gralla is one of the largest trading communities in southern Styria and has a large shopping center that is located at the freeway exit.

There is a hydroelectric power plant on the river Mur.
