Gramado

Gramado is a city in Rio Grande do Sul in southern Brazil. The Munizip has 31,655 inhabitants. Gramado is located at an altitude of 830 meters in the Serra Gaúcha in the region of the hydrangeas. The municipality borders on Canela (in the east ), Caxias do Sul ( in the north), Nova Petrópolis ( in the West ), Santa Maria do Herval ( in the southwest ) and Três Coroas ( in the southeast ). Gramado is situated 115 km north of the federal state capital, Porto Alegre.

History

According to the original indigenous inhabitants of the area were drovers ( Tropeiros ) Azorean origin, the first intruder in the hilly and forested region near Gramado. The first settlers arrived in 1875, a village was founded in 1913 by German and Italian colonists. 1954 Gramado split off as a separate parish of Taquara. With its ideal location near the city of Porto Alegre, the cool Gramado became a place for summer visitors. Meanwhile, the city is less influenced by the nature and agriculture, but more by the tourism congresses and also the Brazilian Film Festival Festival de Gramado.

Geography

Gramado has a subtropical by the altitude of relatively cool and humid climate. In summer there is an average of 28 degrees in the winter 6 degrees. There are occasional frost and snow. The original vegetation is Araucaria forest and Mata Atlântica in the deeper layers. In the surrounding valleys there are many waterfalls.

Economy

Much of the economic activity is directly or indirectly related to tourism. There are more than a hundred furniture factories, some twenty chocolate factories and many manufacturers of handicrafts. Many German -and Italian -born immigrant to process the raw materials of the region to honey, jam, wine, cheese, bread and cakes. Accordingly, many retail stores are there in the city.

Culture

Since 1973, the Gramado Film Festival is annually held here.

Tourism

Tourists come to Gramado often not because of the natural beauty and the culture of the German and Italian immigrants, but because of the numerous trainings, trade fairs and conferences in Gramado Sierra Park, ExpoGramado and numerous hotels. The most important annual event since 1973, the Festival de Cinema Brasileiro e significant Latino, in which the Kikito is awarded. At Christmas decoration is made from empty PET bottles.

Most visited attractions are the vantage point in the Vale do Quilombo, the waterfall Véu de Noiva, the artificial lakes Lago Negro and Lake Joaquina beer, the theme park Mini Mundo with a replica of the Neuschwanstein castle, a Santa Claus village, the church of São Pedro, the Museu dos Festivais de Cinema and the streets and squares of the city center.

Traffic

The village lies on the Rota Romantica, a road leading from São Leopoldo about Gramado and Canela to São Francisco de Paula.
