Gramma brasiliensis

The Brazilian Basslet ( Gramma brasiliensis ) is a species of the family of Anthias ( Grammatidae ). He strongly resembles the king - Basslet ( Gramma loreto ).

Features

The fish reaches a length of up to 6.6 centimeters (males), the front half of the body is purple, the back is yellow, the transition of the two body colors is somewhat blurred.

The Brazilian Basslet is found only along the coast of Brazil, and on offshore islands south of the mouth of the Amazon between 8 ° and 23 ° south latitude. He lives in coral reefs and rocky bottoms at depths of 3-22 meters.

Way of life

Brazilian Anthias live singly or in small groups of up to four animals in small caves or under ledges. There they often swim with the ventral side up on the ceiling of the caves and rocky outcrops.

They feed on zooplankton, but clean, similar to Putzerlippfischen, occasionally other fish, especially Chromis multilineata and Haemulon plumieri.
