Grammy Award for Best Latin Jazz Album

The Grammy Award for Best Latin Jazz Album ( German Grammy Award for Best Latin Jazz Album) is a music prize, which is awarded every year since 1995 at the Grammy Awards. With it important works of Latin Jazz music are excellent. It is only awarded to artists who have recorded their album in over 51 % new for this album. From 1995 to 2001 was the price Grammy Award for Best Latin Jazz Performance before the name then in Grammy Award for Best Latin Jazz Album has been changed.

History and Background

The Grammy Awards ( originally Gramophone Awards), which were first awarded in 1959, are presented annually at the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences in the United States for outstanding achievements, technical expertise, and outstanding overall performance. Chart positions or total sales of the respective albums are ignored.

The first prize winner was Arturo Sandoval, who was awarded the Prize in 1995 for his album Danzon (Dance On).

At the Grammy Awards 2012, the prize was not awarded because he was slammed together with the Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Jazz Album, Individual or Group and the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Jazz Album Grammy Award for Best Jazz Instrumental Album. For the 55th Grammy Awards, he is, however, provided again.

Statistics

The award has been awarded ten times to Cuban and eight times on American artist, also a time to a Brazilian artist and a time to artists from the Dominican Republic. The artist with the most of these prices is Chucho Valdés, which was awarded him three times. Charlie Haden, Paquito D' Rivera and Arturo Sandoval could each win the award twice.
