Gramoz Pashko

Gramoz Pashko ( born February 11, 1955 in Tirana, † July 16, 2006 in the Adriatic Sea between Albania and Italy) was an Albanian economist and politician. In 1990 he was one of the founders of the Democratic Party; last he was rector of a private university in Tirana.

Life

Gramoz Pashko studied at the University of Tirana and earned a degree in economics in 1977, in 1983 he made his master's degree in the same subject and in 1989 he earned the degree of Doctor of economics. Until the turn, he worked as a lecturer at the Faculty of Economics in Tirana. He was appointed professor in 1993.

In the fall of 1990 Pashko was among the students and faculty that drove the anti-communist revolution in Tirana. In December of the same year he was co-founder of the Democratic Party, the first non- communist political power in Albania. A short time he was in the transitional government from 1991 Vice- Minister of Economic Affairs. For the Democrats Pashko then moved in 1992 as a deputy in the Albanian parliament.

Later he moved to the small liberal party Aleanca Demokratike before he retired from political life in Albania in order to return to work as a lecturer in economics. Four years Pashko belonged to a body that advised the Socialist Prime Minister Fatos Nano in economic issues.

Gramoz Pashko in 2002 rector of the branch of the New York State University in Tirana. On 6 July 2006 he presented the first students their graduation diplomas. A few days later he fell due to a crash when going hiking near Dhërmi into a coma. He was to be flown out for treatment by helicopter to the Italian Bari. However, the helicopter crashed in the Adriatic Sea on July 16. Gramoz Pashko and five other people were killed.
