Grand'Maison Dam

The dam Grand -Maison (French Barrage de Grand'Maison ) is located in the French Alps in the valley of the Eau d' Olle between the massifs Belle Donne and Grandes Rousses, about 25 kilometers east of Grenoble in the municipality of Vaujany in the Isère and Savoie the Rhône -Alpes region. The dam forms the Lac de Grand Maison, which has an altitude of 1695 m.

Dam

The dam is a rockfill dam. The bulk material required for this purpose was obtained about 800 meters from the location of the dam in a quarry. The dam was designed by the Office Coyne & Bellier. After a construction period from 1978 to 1985, she was commissioned in 1988. The dam has long been the highest rockfill dam in Europe and was (probably) in 2006 overtaken by Kárahnjúkavirkjun dam with 193 m.

Hydroelectric power station

With the barrage of Verney together it forms the hydroelectric plant of Eau d'Olle valley, which also has the function of a pump storage power plant. The power plant capacity is 1224 MW and the pumping capacity 1800 MW.
