Grand Chalet

The Grand Chalet in the Vaud commune Rossinière is the largest wooden building in Switzerland.

It was built in 1752-1756 by the master carpenter Joseph Geneyne for Jean- David Henchoz and initially called Grande Maison. The building has a floor area of ​​500 m², five floors and 113 windows and is covered with a hip roof. The facade is richly decorated and contains a 2,800 letters painted with dedication. It was extensively restored in 1852 on the occasion of the conversion to a hotel. At the same time, the building was renamed Grand Chalet. The building remained until 1875 owned by the Henchoz family.

1976 acquired the painter Balthasar Klossowski by Rola (known as Balthus ) the house and lived there until his death in February 2001 along with his wife, Countess Setsuko.
