Grand County (Colorado)

The San Miguel County is a county located in the state of Colorado of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Hot Sulphur Springs.

Geography

The county has an area of ​​4842 square kilometers, of which 59 square kilometers are water surface.

History

Grand County was formed on February 2, 1874 from parts of Summit County and included land on the western and northern state border, which today is one of Moffat County and Routt County. As Routt County was established on January 29, 1877, Grand County shrank to its present western border. As valuable minerals in North Park were found, Grand County claimed the area as well as Larimer County. It took a decision of the Colorado Supreme Court in 1886 to declare North Park to a part of Larimer County. So finally the northern boundary was fixed.
