Grand Duchess Alexandra Nikolaevna ( ru: Александра Николаевна ) of Russia (. .. . * 12 Junijul / June 24 1825greg in Saint Petersburg; † 29 Julijul / August 10 1844greg in Tsarskoye Selo ) was a member of the imperial family from the house of Romanov -Holstein -Gottorp, and was by marriage Hereditary Princess of Hesse- Kassel to Rumpenheim.

Life

Alexandra, known to her family " Adini ", was the fourth child and favorite daughter of Tsar Nicholas I of Russia (1796-1855) and Alexandra Fyodorovna, his German -born wife née Princess Charlotte of Prussia (1798-1860), eldest daughter of the Prussian king Friedrich Wilhelm III. and Princess Louise of Mecklenburg -Strelitz. She was also a great-granddaughter of Empress Catherine II the Great.

On 16 Januarjul. / January 28 1844greg. Alexandra married in Saint Petersburg Landgrave Friedrich Wilhelm of Hesse- Kassel to Rumpenheim (1820-1884), the only son of the Landgrave William of Hesse -Kassel- Rumpenheim and his Danish wife Louise Charlotte. She was buried in the St. Peter and Paul Fortress in Saint Petersburg. Her son is buried at Rumpenheim.

In 2000 a bank was built with a small bust of the Grand Duchess to commemorate Alexandra in the garden of the palace of Peterhof near St. Petersburg.
