Grand Duke George Alexandrovich of Russia

Grand Duke Georgy ( Yury ) Alexandrovich (Russian Георгий Александрович Романов, scientific transliteration Georgi Alexandrovich Romanov; * 27 Apriljul / May 9 1871greg in Tsarskoye Selo, .. † 28 Junijul / July 10 1899greg near Abastumani. . ) was the third son of Alexander III. and Maria Feodorovna. He suffered from tuberculosis since his youth. He began his service with the Russian fleet, but had to retire due to an exacerbation of the disease it soon.

From 1894 to Georgi was the official heir to the throne and was appointed Atamans all Cossack armies. He could, however, do not carry out state affairs due to his poor health. He kept almost constantly in his high mountain estate in Abastumani in the Caucasus, where the progression of tuberculosis has been slowed by the climatic conditions. There he was mainly concerned with astronomical observations. In Abastumani he died on 10 July 1899.
