Grand Duke Michael Nikolaevich of Russia

Grand Duke Michael Nikolaevich of Russia (Russian: Михаил Николаевич, scientific transliteration Mikhail Nikolaevich, . * 13 Oktoberjul / October 25 1832greg in Peterhof near St. Petersburg, .. . † 5 Dezemberjul / December 18 1909greg in Cannes) was the fourth son of Tsar Nicholas I and Charlotte of Prussia.

From 1862 to 1882 he was Governor General of Transcaucasia. In the Russo- Turkish War (1877-1878) he was commander of the Russian troops in the Caucasus and was appointed in April 1878 Field Marshal. After the death of Alexander II in 1881 he was appointed by his successor Alexander III. appointed in place of his older brother Constantine as Chairman of the State Council and held this office until his death.

On 16 Augustjul. / August 28 1857greg. he married Princess Cecilia of Baden (1839-1891), who took the name Olga Feodorovna and with whom he had the following children:
